Summer ENDWI campaign takes new approach to promoting safe driving

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – NMDOT unveiled its latest ENDWI campaign on Monday. The summer 2022 campaign takes a slightly different approach than in years past. It features pool parties and the reminder to get home safely, with the slogan “Don’t crash the party. Designate a driver.”

New ENDWI Campaign Launches Statewide June 29

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation will use animation for the first time in a new ENDWI campaign at the end of June that also promotes the states COVID-19 safe practices.

The television and social media spots by RK Venture of Albuqueruque show animated characters practicing social distancing and wearing masks unless exercising or eating while also sending a strong message against drunk driving.

NMDOT Releases New Ad To Combat Drunk Driving (KRQE)

The state unveiled its latest campaign to curb drunk driving, focusing on the way dangerous habitats can be passed down from parents to kids.

"How do you get to the root of the problem, and that's something that kind of the way you were brought up, the cultural things here in New Mexico,"" Michael Sandoval, New Mexico Department of Transportation Secretary, said.

NMDOT's ENDWI campaign was created in 2012 to help reduce the number of drunk driving-related crashes and fatalities by promoting designated drivers, safe rides and responsible consumption with the goal of ending drunk driving in New Mexico.

NMDOT Partners Offer Safe Rides during Beer Week

Working together we can ENDWI. The New Mexico Department of Transportation, Bernalillo County, The City of Albuquerque, Cumulus radio stations and Uber have partnered to create and support "Take a Ride on Us." Since Christmas 2018, this public-private partnership has provided nearly 6,000 safe rides home to New Mexican's living in the Albuquerque metro area who chose not to drink and drive.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation, Bernalillo County, The City of Albuquerque, Cumulus radio stations and Uber have partnered to support "Take a Ride on Us." The collaborative goal is to ENDWI by offering an Uber credit of up to ten-dollars for up to two trips in the Bernalillo County metro area over the holiday weekend.

Cinco de Mayo Super Blitz

There were 125 alcohol-involved crash fatalities in New Mexico last year. The New Mexico Department of Transportation Cabinet Sec. Mike Sandoval says, "New Mexico is making progress to stop drunk driving, but everyone has to take it seriously. One death on our roadways is one too many. We're better than that. We have a responsibility to change the destructive behaviors generation after generation of New Mexican's continue to repeat. Driving drunk is never acceptable."
